Park Boundary Adjustment
One of the main reasons the development of the proposed resort by Fairmont Hot Springs Resort (FHSR) has not happened yet, has been the lack of road and power access to Lot 48. Currently the only way of accessing Lot 48 is by using the existing dirt road that goes through Columbia Lake Provincial Park.

FHSR has requested that the Ministry of Environment enact the Park Boundary Adjustment to Columbia Lake Provincial Park, so that they can proceed with the road and power line construction right through the middle of the narrow park.

The legislation that allows for the Park Boundary Adjustment is new and has never been used in practice. This will be the first test of the legislation, which gives developers the tools and opportunity to develop in Provincial Park lands.

The Ktunaxa Nation is opposed to the prospect of the Columbia Lake Provincial Park being split in two, and believe that this puts in jeopardy other ongoing processes such as the re-zoning of Lot 48 by the RDEK.

* The new ownership of the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort has offered to withdraw the application for the Park Boundary Adjustment from active processing during the six month deferral on Bylaws No. 1880 & 1881.
