This area is the foundation of the Ktunaxa Creation Story, and has historically been used by the Ktunaxa until the land was pre-empted in 1883.

The Columbia Headwaters is integral to the rebuilding of Ktunaxa culture and connection to the land after over a century of attempts by governments and churches to destroy their culture and spirituality.

This is the place where the Ktunaxa want to bring their children and grandchildren now and into the future to show them who they are as a people. This place means something to the Ktunaxa – it is sacred.
